Former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who was sacked from conservative opposition party Law and Justice (PiS) this month, has emerged as one of Poland's most trusted politicians, according to a new poll.
The survey, released on Tuesday by the Public Opinion Research Centre (CBOS), puts Ziobro, who is currently the figurehead of breakaway parliamentary club Solidarna Polska (United Poland), ahead of Lech Kaczynski, the leader of Law and Justice.
Ziobro called for change in Law and Justice following the party's defeat in the 9 October elections, and he had long been cited as a possible successor to Kaczynski.
According to CBOS, Ziobro is currently enjoying 36 percent approval among the public, while Kaczynski has 28 percent rating.
President Komorowski remains way ahead of the pack, with 75 percent of those surveyed affirming that they trusted their head of state. He was followed by Prime Minister Tusk, with 54 percent.
One of the biggest losers this month is Janusz Palikot, leader of the self-titled Palikot's Movement party, the liberal grouping which won a surprise 10 percent share of the vote in last month's general eleection.
In October, Palikot enjoyed 36 percent approval, yet this month he is down 8 percent. (nh/pg)
