Q&A :: Fighting against the g-word

In recent weeks, Church officials and conservative circles have been lambasting what they consider heretical gender ideology. Bishop, Father Tadeusz Pieronek has called gender studies - an interdisciplinary academic field devoted to gender-based identity - "worse than fascism". In response, Polish feminists have taken up the issue with the Vatican.

The ongoing wave of criticism against gender is an attempt to detract attention from the Church's bigger problems, claims women's rights activist Agnieszka Graff, herself a gender studies lecturer at the University of Warsaw.
